Hundreds of kilometers of streetlights, built jointly by the government and the people, have illuminated villages and beautified the Moc Chau plateau – a national tourist area, a world-leading natural destination, and on the verge of becoming a town in the highlands of Son La, Northwest Vietnam.
The twinkling lights along the concrete roads stretching from the commune center to every village and hamlet have added a touch of beauty to the new day in Chiềng Sơn border commune, Mộc Châu district, Sơn La province. This has been a long-awaited dream for the people in this border region.
Mr. Giàng A Páo, a resident of Pha Luông village, Chiềng Sơn commune, shared: "My family runs a grocery store. Previously, I only sold during the day. But since we got electricity, business has become much easier. More people come to shop in the evening. To serve the shopping needs of the villagers, my family keeps the store open until 8-9 pm."

These illuminated roads were created thanks to the joint efforts of the people in the border villages, along with support from the State, businesses, organizations, and philanthropists. The Party committees and local authorities held meetings with the people, disseminated information, and mobilized support, receiving strong backing from the residents, from contributing money to buy materials to donating labor for transporting and erecting power poles... extending over 44 km of street lighting in Chiềng Sơn commune.
Mr. Song A Chinh, Party Secretary and head of Suoi Thin village, shared: "Over the past period, the people of Suoi Thin village, with the contributions of charitable organizations, have joined hands to build 1.7 km of street lighting, helping people travel more conveniently at night and maintaining security and order in the border area."

With the principle that the people invest in the initial construction, annual maintenance and repair, and operation of the project; the state supports monthly electricity payments for systems using the national grid and supports initial investment in the construction of solar power systems... the policy of investing in street lighting systems in Moc Chau district has received high consensus from the people.
"With the policy of focusing on rural areas, since 2022, the Standing Committee of the Moc Chau District Party Committee has issued a separate conclusion on supporting rural lighting. This is a policy that has received very high support from the people. The lighting system in the area has contributed to changing the face of rural areas in Moc Chau district, and at the same time contributed to ensuring security and order in the district." - Mr. Le Trong Binh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Moc Chau district, Son La province, informed.

The landscape of the plateau is further brightened with the completion and commissioning of over 290 km of street lighting in all communes and towns, with a total investment of over 18 billion VND. This also demonstrates the efforts of the Party Committee, the government, and the people of Moc Chau in the journey of building a new rural area and a new appearance, especially before becoming a town according to the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly in early February this year.
