Focus on upgrading and building new schools

According to the report of the People's Committee of Son La city, Son La province, from 2020 to now, the city has upgraded 55 school buildings, with a total investment of nearly 330 billion VND. In 2024 alone, the city will invest in 2 equipment procurement packages; 23 projects to repair and build new schools, classrooms and other auxiliary works with a total cost of 126 billion VND.

Mr. Do Van Tru, Chairman of Son La City People's Committee, said: In recent times, investment in infrastructure has also helped increase the rate of schools meeting national standards. Up to now, the city has 41/43 schools meeting national standards, reaching more than 92%, an increase of 9% compared to 2020, of which level 2 standards reached more than 53%.

In the 2024-2025 school year, teachers and students of Chieng Den Kindergarten, Chieng Den Commune, Son La City were delighted when the newly built, spacious classroom was handed over and put into use.

Ms. Quang Thi Song, Principal of Chieng Den Kindergarten, shared: Previously, the school had 2 central classrooms and 3 satellite schools. At these schools, the facilities and equipment were still lacking and did not meet the teaching conditions according to kindergarten standards.

According to Ms. Song, stemming from those difficulties, in March 2024, the school received attention from the city to invest in building 2 new 2-storey classrooms with 14 classrooms; along with many auxiliary works and teaching equipment with a total value of over 20 billion VND.

"After 6 months of construction, the project was handed over and put into use in time for the opening of the new school year 2024 - 2025. We have combined students from 2 central locations, a total of 300 students, to the new location. With a new school and classrooms with modern equipment, toys, and supplies, teachers and students are very excited and confident in teaching and learning," said Ms. Song.

Son La city is a bright spot in education in the region.

Not only Chieng Den kindergarten receives attention from the city in building facilities, but the city also focuses resources on building and upgrading other schools in the area.

From 2022 to present, Nguyen Trai Secondary School has invested in building a new 1-storey multi-purpose building; renovating the 4-storey head office building; 2 3-storey classroom buildings with 36 classrooms; 1 4-storey boarding house; building new toilets and auxiliary items, including: concrete yard, mini football field, earth retaining wall, outdoor lighting, fire protection system...

At the same time, Nguyen Trai Secondary School is also fully equipped with modern teaching equipment, from computer systems to laboratories with full equipment. This helps students not only master theoretical knowledge but also have the opportunity to practice and experience reality, becoming a bright spot in the educational career of the province and city.

These schools are fully designed with laboratories, computer rooms, libraries, and playgrounds and sports areas.

According to Mr. Chien, the city always devotes resources to investing in educational facilities, creating the best conditions for teachers and students to feel secure in teaching and learning. Currently, it can be said that the school system in the area is increasingly spacious and modern, helping to improve the quality of education to suit the new situation.

"In 2025, we will continue to review schools to continue building new ones, renovating and upgrading school facilities, especially those that have not yet met national standards level 2. We will focus on investing in facilities to meet the requirements of promoting digital transformation in education, striving for 100% of schools in the city to meet national standards level 2 in the next term," said Mr. Chien.
