The Ban Flower Festival consists of a ceremony and a festival. In which, the “Xen Muong” ceremony is performed by elderly artisans with the “Tam Te Then” ritual, reporting and inviting the gods (8 Then) in heaven and the gods who control mountains and rivers in the lower world (Muong Lum) to join in the Ban Flower Festival and enjoy the delicious and strange foods, the fruits of the labor of the Muong people.

The “Xen Muong” festival has become an annual festival of the Thai ethnic community. This is an occasion to express gratitude to the gods and those who have contributed to the exploration, construction and protection of the Muong and the village; to pray for the peace of the people of Son La city, the peaceful Muong villages, favorable weather, good harvests and favorable business. The “Xen Muong” festival has become a unique cultural feature of the ethnic communities of Son La city.
