Every year, the District Military Command has advised the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee to strengthen foreign relations and diplomatic cooperation in military and national defense with Muong Et District (Lao PDR). Directed the militia and reserve forces to coordinate with border posts to do a good job of managing and protecting the national border; focused on propagating to the people to implement the Regulations on the land border area of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, Song Ma District Military Command, said: The unit has established a sister unit with Muong Et District Military Command, regularly exchanging information on national defense and security work; coordinating in building forces, building battle positions, exchanging expertise and skills. Periodic meetings are held once a year to evaluate results and set out directions for the following year.
The Military Commands of the border communes have a firm grasp of the situation, promptly report, and handle situations well. Since 2024, the two units have exchanged valuable information; coordinated to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese working groups to search for and recover the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Laos during the war, and return them to the country as planned.

The Military Command of Song Ma District has also proactively proposed and recommended to competent authorities to pay attention to investing in infrastructure and facilities in communes, villages, and border areas bordering Muong Et District. From 2024 to present, the Military Command of Song Ma District has supported cement and funding for the Military Command of Muong Et District to repair facilities at the unit. At the same time, the military forces of the two sides also coordinate to organize cultural, artistic, and sports exchange activities.
In addition, the Military Command of Song Ma district also directed the militia forces of the border communes to coordinate with the Border Guard Station of Chieng Khuong border gate, Muong Cai Border Guard Station and Na Ha Station, Muong Et district, to regularly organize bilateral patrols of the entire system of border lines and national border markers. Mr. Song A Sau, Commander of the Military Command of Muong Cai commune, Song Ma district, said: The Command has proactively grasped the local situation, consulted with the Party Committee and the commune government, coordinated with the Muong Cai Border Guard Station to organize patrols, grasp the area, clear border markers, and handle subjects with law violations, contributing to maintaining political security and social order and safety in the area.
The strengthening of defense diplomacy between the Military Command of Song Ma district and the Military Command of Muong Et district has contributed to improving the level of staff work and handling situations in the implementation of military and defense tasks of the two sides; maintaining a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and comprehensively developed border; fostering the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos in general and the armed forces of the two provinces and districts in particular.
