(baosonla.vn) - Implementing the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) program, Phu Yen district has so far developed 24 products that have been evaluated as achieving 3 stars or higher. These distinctive local products, after being recognized, have increased their value and competitiveness, expanded their markets, and increased income for the people.
Discussing the development of OCOP products in the district. Ms. Bac Cam Thi Xieng, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Phu Yen District, said: The District People's Committee has directed the department to coordinate with communes and towns to review the strong and distinctive products of each locality. Based on that, they will assess products with the potential to develop into OCOP products to provide support to production households and cooperatives to improve product quality. At the same time, they will encourage organizations and individuals to apply science and technology to the production, preservation, and processing of OCOP products, and apply the OCOP product quality management system.

The District People's Committee has allocated approximately 500-700 million VND per year to support the development and improvement of the quality of recognized OCOP products. In 2024, the district allocated over 560 million VND to develop 8 OCOP products, including: green-skinned pomelo of Phu Thinh Agricultural Service Cooperative; Minh Ngoc filter tea bags of Son La Agricultural Production and Business Cooperative; An Xoa herbal extract of Uyen Thuan Cooperative; and the historical resistance war tourism site of Ban Nhot forest, Gia Phu commune, on a digital platform…
Cooperative societies and entities register trademarks and packaging for products, are assigned codes and barcodes for traceability; support is provided for consulting costs for product entities in preparing evaluation and classification dossiers; and support is provided for obtaining VietGAP certificates... To date, the district has 24 products meeting OCOP standards from 14 cooperative societies, 1 cooperative group, and 3 business households in the area, including 22 products achieving 3-star rating and 2 products achieving 4-star rating.

The sweet mandarin orange trees of Nghia Hung Fruit Growing Cooperative in Muong Coi commune have been applying VietGAP production standards since 2019. To date, the cooperative's mandarin oranges have received high praise for their quality from partners and customers. The cooperative has developed an OCOP product associated with brand building.
Mr. Nguyen Van Su, Director of the Cooperative, said: "In 2020, the sweet tangerines of our cooperative were recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. Currently, the cooperative has 10 hectares of sweet tangerine trees, with a yield of 80 tons of fruit per season, which is not enough to supply our traditional customers. We have a plan to expand the area for growing sweet tangerines using organic farming methods, aiming to further improve the quality, brand, and value of our sweet tangerines, meeting the needs of customers both within and outside the province."

To promote OCOP products, the district directs the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Economy and Infrastructure to connect with and support cooperatives in participating in trade promotion fairs organized by districts and cities inside and outside the province. The district also promotes the supply and sale of OCOP products at sales points and product introductions within the district; and introduces OCOP products at sales points and product promotion centers inside and outside the province.
In addition, the district also guides and supports businesses in bringing OCOP products to e-commerce platforms such as Lazada.vn, Shopee.vn, Sendo.vn, tiki.vn, Voso.vn, Posmart, etc. Currently, all OCOP products from the district have been listed on e-commerce platforms and online portals managed by the Department of Industry and Trade, the provincial OCOP program websites, and on the social media pages of businesses and organizations. At the same time, it encourages businesses to directly interact with sellers of small-scale products and local specialties through various forms, such as livestreaming sales on platforms like TikTok and Shopee Live.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Trung, Director of Gia Dinh On Woodworking Cooperative in Quang Huy town, shared: "Since 2022, the cooperative has listed its products on e-commerce platforms such as Portmart and Shopee to promote its products, highlighting their excellent heat insulation properties, the sealed wood grain prevention through a steaming and drying process, and the absence of paint or bleaching, thus ensuring greater safety for users' health. Therefore, the cooperative's product sales have been quite successful."
The "One Commune, One Product" program in Phu Yen district has been exploiting local potential and strengths, promoting brand building, linking production and consumption of products, creating momentum for sustainable agricultural economic development, and contributing to improving the lives of the people.
