(vov.gov.vn) - With resources from national target programs and the involvement of each locality, water supply projects have gradually appeared in remote, disadvantaged villages in Son La. Clean water has reached homes, helping people alleviate their worries about water shortages and allowing them to work and produce with peace of mind.
The major flood of 2019 swept away and damaged the water supply system for the people of Pau village, Ta Bu commune, Muong La district, Son La province. For many years, the villagers have faced water shortages, making their daily lives extremely difficult.
In 2024, the People's Committee of Muong La district decided to invest in the construction and repair of the water supply system for Pau village. The project has a total capital of nearly 800 million VND, from the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2025.

A water supply system has been constructed for the residents of Pau village, Ta Bu commune, Muong La district, Son La province.
Mr. Quang Van Thiep, Party Secretary and Head of Pau village, said: "The people are very happy and excited because before the clean water project, households had to pump river water for use, and the water in the rice fields was too polluted. Now, there is water all year round, and the main dam also provides clean water, so there is no longer any fear of pollution."
New infrastructure, new joys: the solidly installed reservoirs and water pipelines leading to each household have eased people's hardships and difficulties; allowing them to live and work with peace of mind, improve their health, and no longer worry about water shortages during the dry season.

With access to clean water, people can live, work, and produce with peace of mind.
Ms. Lo Thi Lan, a resident of Pau village, said: "Before, we always had to get water from the river and streams, but now that we have clean water, we are very happy."
Clean water has finally reached over 110 households, comprising approximately 500 people, in Chon village, Muong Bu commune, Muong La district, Son La province, after years of the water supply system deteriorating and no longer meeting the needs of the residents. This is one of the projects invested in by the District People's Committee for repair and new construction, providing water to resettlement areas and sites affected by the Son La hydropower project.

Clean water has reached over 110 households in Chon village, Muong Bu commune, Muong La district.
Mr. Tong Van Xoan, Party Secretary and Head of Chon village, Muong Bu commune, shared: "Before the water pump was installed, mainly some households in the lowlands used hoses to draw water down, while people in higher areas used small pumps to bring water up to their houses. After the government invested, the people are very happy with this project."
According to the leaders of Muong Bu commune, some highland villages still face a shortage of clean water, with residents mainly relying on streams and groundwater. During the dry season, many households have to travel several kilometers to fetch water. Some families have proactively dug wells, but due to the hilly terrain, many areas are inaccessible to groundwater.

Households no longer have to worry about a lack of clean water for daily use.
According to Ca Van Don, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Bu commune, to overcome this situation, the local government has mobilized resources to build water reservoirs and extend water pipelines from low-lying water sources to higher-lying villages. At the same time, they encourage and guide people to use water sparingly and apply measures to collect rainwater for use during the dry season...
From 2021 to the present, Muong La district has focused its resources on investing in upgrading, repairing, and constructing new infrastructure systems to serve socio-economic development for the people, especially in resettlement areas and remote regions. With a total investment of nearly 35 billion VND, during the 2021-2025 period, 14 water supply projects have been implemented for the people.

The appearance of villages in the remote, mountainous areas of Son La province is changing day by day.
Mr. Lo Vi Lay, Deputy Director of the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Muong La District, Son La Province, shared: "During the dry season, we continued to invest in projects and works according to the prescribed lists; the Provincial People's Committee and the Central Government have allocated funds to implement clean water projects for the people, ensuring that the projects are implemented promptly and effectively, ensuring social welfare for the people in the area."
The effective mobilization and utilization of investment resources in Muong La in particular, as well as in the 12 districts, cities, and towns of Son La province in general, has contributed to raising the percentage of ethnic minority people with access to clean drinking water in the province to 97.5%.

Resources from central and local government programs and projects have helped bring clean water to the disadvantaged areas of Son La.
Specifically, from the Project on addressing land shortages, housing shortages, production land shortages, and clean water shortages, under the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, from 2022 to the end of 2024, Son La province disbursed over 145 billion VND; invested in the construction, upgrading, and repair of 94 clean water facilities; and provided support for decentralized water storage tanks for nearly 1,400 households, totaling over 4.1 billion VND. In addition, there are funds from new rural development programs, poverty reduction programs, and other local resources...
