By the end of 2023, the total area of ​​fruit trees (including hawthorn trees) is estimated to reach 84,160 hectares, with a production of 450,336 tons. For the 2023-2024 crop year, the estimated area of ​​coffee cultivation in the province is 20,137 hectares, with an estimated production of 32,944 tons of coffee beans; compared to the 2022-2023 crop year, the coffee area increased by 6.91% (1,301 hectares); and production increased by 9.86% (2,958 tons). The estimated area of ​​cassava cultivation throughout the province is 42,990 hectares, with a production of 502,861 tons; compared to the 2022-2023 crop year, the cassava area decreased by 8.59% (4,041 hectares); and production decreased by 9.09% (50,296 tons).

Currently, the province has attracted four industrial-scale vegetable and fruit processing plants, including: the DOVECO Export Vegetable and Fruit Processing Center in Mai Son district, with a capacity of 100,000 tons of various products per year. By the end of November 2023, the total agricultural products purchased by Dong Giao Export Food Joint Stock Company for the processing plant reached 8,649.6 tons, including: 397.7 tons of pineapple, 59 tons of passion fruit, 2,294.4 tons of sweet corn, 1,420 tons of edamame, 128.5 tons of spinach, and 4,353 tons of mangoes. IC FOOD Son La Co., Ltd. has completed the construction of its factory with a capacity of 1,700 tons of dried products per year. In 2023, the company continued to sign contracts for the production and procurement of 4,350 tons of raw materials, including: 1,500 tons of scallions; 650 tons of cabbage; 700 tons of Chinese cabbage; 350 tons of carrots; 1,000 tons of bok choy; and 150 tons of napa cabbage, to process into 200 tons of finished products. The Van Ho Fresh Fruit and Herb Processing Plant, belonging to the TH Group, is located in Long Luong commune, Van Ho district, and utilizes a modern, 100% automated processing line. To date, the plant has purchased 500 tons of longan from the province for processing during the 2023 longan season. Nafoods Tay Bac Joint Stock Company, located in Bo Bun Industrial Park, Moc Chau District, has a processing capacity of 10,000 tons of vegetables and fruits per year. The total area of ​​passion fruit raw material used for processing by the company currently stands at 750 hectares (400 hectares planted in 2022 and 350 hectares in 2023). The company currently purchases between 15-20 tons of fruit per day, with the harvesting season starting in June. To date, the company has purchased over 1,000 tons of fresh fruit for processing.

The province has 543 small-scale processing and manufacturing facilities for fruit products. The main processed products include: dried mango; dried persimmon; dried banana; banana wine; dried plums and apricots; plum and apricot wine; dried dragon fruit; passion fruit juice; longan; dried pineapple; hawthorn wine; wild apple wine; hawthorn fruit juice; dried hawthorn… The estimated volume of processed products is approximately 20,022 tons per year (equivalent to 81,187 tons of fresh fruit).

Within the province, there are 8 industrial-scale coffee processing facilities, including: 2 facilities in Son La City (Minh Tien Coffee Import-Export Co., Ltd. - Son La Branch; Bich Thao Son La Coffee Cooperative), with an expected purchase volume of 7,150 tons of coffee beans; 2 facilities in Thuan Chau district (Cat Que Production and Trading Co., Ltd.; AVINA Tea and Coffee Cooperative), with an expected purchase volume of 9,600 tons of coffee beans; 4 facilities in Mai Son district (Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company; Muong Chanh Rural Construction and Development Cooperative; Dao Chieng Ban Coffee Cooperative; Aratay - Coffee Cooperative), with an expected purchase volume of 51,963 tons of coffee beans; all facilities and factories have wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental standards.

Regarding cassava processing, the province has the Son La Cassava Starch Factory, a subsidiary of Phu Yen Cassava Starch Joint Stock Company, with a registered processing capacity of 150,000 tons per year. For the 2023-2024 crop year, the factory is expected to process 31,500 tons of fresh cassava tubers. The BHL Agricultural Products Processing Factory, a subsidiary of BHL Son La Agricultural Products Processing Joint Stock Company, is located in Mai Son Industrial Park, Muong Bang Commune, Mai Son District, with a registered processing capacity of 150,000 tons per year. For the 2023-2024 crop year, the factory is expected to process 31,500 tons of fresh cassava tubers, equivalent to 12,400 tons of starch. In addition, the province has 16 other establishments, companies, and cooperatives processing dried cassava chips.

In the coming period, Son La province will continue to focus on intensive farming to increase productivity and product quality, build and develop efficient concentrated raw material areas, mechanize production synchronously, and improve the processing and preservation capacity of agricultural products according to production linkage models along the value chain, linked with quality standards and raw material area codes, thereby contributing to increasing the value of the province's agricultural products. The province will also invite and create the best possible policies and conditions to attract investment in the agricultural sector. This will contribute to improving infrastructure, promoting deep processing in agriculture, and aiming to build Son La province into a center for agricultural product processing in the Northwest region.
