It is estimated that by the end of 2023, the total area of fruit trees (including Son Tra trees) will reach 84,160 hectares, with an output of 450,336 tons. In the 2023 - 2024 crop year, the estimated coffee growing area in the province will be 20,137 hectares, with an estimated output of 32,944 tons of coffee beans; compared to the 2022 - 2023 crop year, the coffee growing area will increase by 6.91% (1,301 hectares); output will increase by 9.86% (2,958 tons). The estimated cassava growing area in the province will be 42,990 hectares, with an output of 502,861 tons; compared to the 2022 - 2023 crop year, the cassava growing area will decrease by 8.59% (4,041 hectares); output will decrease by 9.09% (50,296 tons).
Currently, the province has attracted 4 industrial-scale vegetable and fruit processing factories, including: DOVECO Export Vegetable and Fruit Processing Center in Mai Son District, with a capacity of 100,000 tons of various products/year. By the end of November 2023, the total output of agricultural products purchased by Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company for the processing factory reached 8,649.6 tons, including: Pineapple 397.7 tons, Passion fruit 59 tons, Sweet corn 2,294.4 tons, Soybean vegetables 1,420 tons, Spinach 128.5 tons, Mango 4,353 tons of fruit. Up to now, IC FOOD Son La Company Limited has completed the construction of a factory with a capacity of 1,700 tons of dried products/year. In 2023, the company is continuing to sign joint contracts to produce and purchase 4,350 tons of raw materials such as: 1,500 tons of green onions; 650 tons of cabbage; 700 tons of Chinese cabbage; 350 tons of carrots; 1,000 tons of Chinese cabbage; 150 tons of Chinese cabbage to process 200 tons of finished products. Van Ho fresh fruit and herbal processing factory belongs to TH Group in Long Luong commune, Van Ho district, with a modern processing technology line, 100% automation: In the 2023 longan crop, up to now, the factory has purchased 500 tons of longan in the province for processing. Nafoods Tay Bac Joint Stock Company in Bo Bun Industrial Park, Moc Chau District, processing capacity of 10,000 tons of vegetables and fruits/year: The total area of passion fruit raw materials for processing for the company up to now is 750 hectares (400 hectares will be planted in 2022, 350 hectares will be planted in 2023). The current purchasing output of the Company fluctuates from 15-20 tons of fruit/day, the harvest season starts from June. Up to now, the company has purchased over 1,000 tons of fresh fruit for processing.
The whole province has 543 establishments for preliminary processing and small-scale processing of fruit products. The main processed products are: Dried mango; Dried persimmon; Dried banana; Banana wine; Dried plum and apricot; Plum and apricot wine; Dried dragon fruit; Passion fruit juice; Longan; Dried pineapple; Son Tra wine; Cat apple wine; Son Tra juice; Dried Son Tra... The estimated processed products are about 20,022 tons/year (equivalent to 81,187 tons of fresh fruit).
In the province, there are 08 industrial-scale processing facilities, including: Son La city has 02 facilities (Minh Tien Coffee Import-Export Company Limited - Son La Branch; Bich Thao Son La Coffee Cooperative), expected purchasing output is 7,150 tons of fruit; Thuan Chau district has 02 facilities (Cat Que Production and Trading Company Limited; AVINA Tea and Coffee Cooperative), expected purchasing output is 9,600 tons of fruit; Mai Son district has 04 facilities (Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company; Muong Chanh Rural Development and Construction Cooperative; Dao Chieng Ban Coffee Cooperative; Aratay - Coffee Cooperative), expected purchasing output is 51,963 tons of fruit; facilities and factories all have wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental standards.
Regarding cassava processing, in the province there is Son La Cassava Starch Factory under Phu Yen Cassava Starch Joint Stock Company Branch, with registered scale and processing capacity of 150,000 tons/year. In the 2023-2024 crop year, the factory is expected to process 31,500 tons of fresh cassava roots. BHL Agricultural Products Processing Factory under BHL Son La Agricultural Products Processing Joint Stock Company is located in Mai Son Industrial Park, Muong Bang Commune, Mai Son District, with registered scale and processing capacity of 150,000 tons/year. In the 2023-2024 crop year, the factory is expected to process 31,500 tons of fresh cassava roots, equivalent to 12,400 tons of starch. In addition, the whole province has 16 establishments, companies, and cooperatives processing dried cassava chips.
In the coming time, Son La province will continue to focus on intensive farming to increase productivity and product quality, build and effectively develop concentrated raw material areas, synchronize mechanization, improve processing and preservation capacity of agricultural products according to production linkage models according to value chains associated with quality standards and raw material area codes, thereby contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products of the province.
