On the morning of March 14th, Muong Sang ward, Moc Chau town, in coordination with Moc Chau Island Tourist Area - Bach Long Glass Bridge, organized a reenactment of the Son La Province Rain Prayer Festival 2025.
The Rain-Praying Festival of the White Thai ethnic group in Muong Sang ward was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Decision No. 392/QD-BVHTT&DL dated February 21, 2024, announcing the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The festival consists of two parts: The ceremonial part includes rituals such as worshipping the earth god, worshipping the water god, and praying for rain; the festive part includes dances to pray for water, celebrate water, circle dances, and folk games. The rain-praying festival is usually held annually on the 15th day of the second lunar month, the driest period, to pray to the deities and spirits in the sky for abundant water sources and rain for the people to plant crops and have a bountiful harvest.
The rain-praying festival reflects the relationships and bonds within the community, strengthening solidarity among families, clans, and ethnic groups, while also promoting the unique cultural values of the Thai ethnic group in particular and the ethnic groups of Moc Chau, Son La in general to tourists from within and outside the province.
