In 2021, Mr. Chá A Tùng's family participated in the Pear Development Support Project and received 500 VH6 pear trees, along with fertilizer and biological products. After nearly four years of care, the pear orchard has grown well, yielding stable productivity with large, sweet fruits that have been well-received by the market.
Mr. Cha A Tung, Phieng Cai village, Long Sap commune, Son La province: I planted pears from 2021 to 2025 and I earned 1 ton of fruit, which helped my family develop economically.
With project support, the family of Mr. Chang Lau Thai in Phieng Cai village, Long Sap commune, has converted 3,000 m² of hillside land to planting VH6 pear trees.
Mr. Chang Lau Thai, from Phieng Cai village, Long Sap commune, Son La province: "I find that pear trees bring very high economic efficiency; 1 kg sells for 20,000 to 25,000 VND, which is twice as much as the passion fruit trees my family used to grow. The climate here is cool, so pear trees are well-suited to the climate, and the soil conditions in Phieng Cai village are favorable."
The entire border commune of Long Sap currently has over 58 hectares of VH6 pear trees that are yielding fruit, mainly concentrated in the two villages of Bo Sap and Phieng Cai. In the first year, only about 1.5 tons of fruit were harvested, but this year the yield has increased sharply, reaching over 7 tons.
Mr. Hoang Van Tho, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Long Sap commune, Son La province: "Regarding the pear tree project introduced to Long Sap commune, it is initially very suitable for the soil and climate conditions of Long Sap commune. It is developing very quickly, producing very good products, and the pears fetch a very high price in the area."
Developing pear cultivation along the value chain helps to form concentrated commodity areas and build model farms for people to learn from and apply. This, in turn, promotes the application of science and technology, enhances product value, develops agricultural tourism, creates jobs, increases income, and contributes to building new rural areas.
