(baosonla.org.vn) - The Ministry of Information and Communications has set a target of 100% of the population being covered by 4G network by 2025 and 100% of the population being covered by 5G by 2030. To achieve this goal, Son La province and telecommunications enterprises are focusing resources on building mobile transmitting and receiving stations, with the motto "wherever electricity goes, telecommunications go there", covering all areas, including remote areas, border areas, and ethnic minority areas.
Viettel Son La installed a broadcasting station in group 3, Chieng An ward, City.
The Department of Information and Communications has developed a plan to develop broadband telecommunications infrastructure in the province. At the same time, it is recommended that telecommunications enterprises invest in infrastructure to expand connections and eliminate “no signal” points so that all people can enjoy telecommunications services, access digital transformation and enjoy the results of digital transformation.
Up to now, 204/204 communes, wards and towns in the province have fiber optic broadband infrastructure; the rate of villages covered by fixed broadband is 70.33%; 46.32% of households have fiber optic subscriptions. The whole province has 1,516 fiber optic transmission lines, with a total length of 11,500 km connecting from the province to districts, cities and communes, wards and towns. Enterprises continue to focus on investing in telecommunications infrastructure in remote areas, especially deploying 4G mobile networks to 100% of communes, wards and towns; 98.3% of villages and hamlets are covered by 3G, 4G mobile broadband; 4G data download speed reaches 30 Mb/s or more.
However, there are still 36 villages in the province that do not have 4G signal. Covering the low-lying areas is difficult because the villages and residential areas in the low-lying areas have a sparse population density, scattered, and fragmented terrain... Some villages do not have grid electricity, so using generators or installing broadcasting stations will increase costs. Many locations for stations are on public land, near residential areas, and processing related procedures can take months to a year.
The Department of Information and Communications and telecommunications enterprises are continuing to accelerate coverage for mobile broadband concave villages; continue to implement the public telecommunications program for the period 2022-2025. Mobilizing the participation of state agencies, together with telecommunications enterprises, unanimously committing to the implementation of coverage contents for villages without mobile broadband coverage, contributing to narrowing the digital gap, ensuring social security, actively contributing to the socio-economic development and digital transformation program of the province.
