From there, it helps people increase their income, gradually stabilize their lives and contribute to the development of the local economy and society.
Cooperative model helps farmers increase income
Faced with the requirements for innovation, development and improvement of collective economic and cooperative efficiency in recent times, to apply them to local practical conditions, Yen Chau district has proactively issued many documents, concretizing policies to raise awareness of cadres, civil servants and members of cooperatives.
Identifying the collective economy and cooperatives as playing an important role in promoting local socio-economic development, Yen Chau district always implements policies to support the establishment and development of agricultural cooperatives according to the 2012 Law on Cooperatives.
Currently, Yen Chau has over 60 cooperatives, of which 45 are fruit growing cooperatives. The district has determined that high-tech agriculture and organic agriculture will continue to be developed on a large scale, with extensive application of mechanization in production; development of safe agricultural food supply chains; application of good agricultural production processes (VIETGAP); effective management, protection, and use of export-qualified growing area codes; and 6 products achieving OCOP certification.

One of the first cooperatives to be supported in establishing and developing growing area codes since 2016, up to now, Quyet Tam Fruit Cooperative, Hua Dan village, Tu Nang commune has nearly 200 hectares of mango and longan with growing area codes. The cooperative always strictly follows the production process and is fully and clearly recorded. Cooperative members have replaced chemical pesticides with biological pesticides, used organic fertilizers to improve product quality, and minimize environmental impacts.
Since being granted a growing area code associated with production according to VietGAP standards, the cooperative's mango products have been successfully exported to markets in the US, China, Australia, etc. In 2023, the cooperative's export output of longan and mango is estimated to reach about 6,000 tons of fruit.
Mr. Duong Minh Ha, Director of Quyet Tam Fruit Cooperative, said: Since being granted a growing area code and producing according to VietGAP standards, the quality of the fruit has been beautiful and the value has been increased more than twice compared to traditional production. Typically, longan is sold at a price of 13-14 thousand VND/kg, sometimes up to 26 thousand VND/kg, the value has increased 3 times. The Cooperative has also linked up with 1,400 mango growing households, continuing to expand the area granted a growing area code, expanding the export market to Korea and Russia.

For Chieng Hac Safe Agricultural Cooperative, Yen Chau District (Son La), it has been granted a code for growing areas and agricultural product packaging facilities for export, associated with production according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards since 2017. Up to now, the Cooperative has had over 80 hectares of green-skinned mango trees granted a code for growing areas for export. In recent years, the Cooperative's mango products have been successfully exported to many markets such as Australia, New Zealand, China, the US, etc.
Mr. Ha Van Son, Director of Chieng Hac Safe Agriculture Cooperative, informed: The Cooperative is continuing to replicate models to expand the area granted with planting codes. The Cooperative is linking and mobilizing households to comply with the "4 rights" principles in the stages of care, use of fertilizers and pesticides as well as the export market and use of organic fertilizers to improve productivity, quality and protect the environment.

Yen Chau develops sustainable cooperative economy
In the first 9 months of the year, the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development advised the District People's Committee to issue documents directing and organizing the implementation of the management and development of agricultural cooperatives and rural industries. Coordinating with specialized departments to promote the establishment of cooperatives in qualified places, by September 2024, the total number of cooperatives in the district was 69, of which 01 cooperative was newly established in 2024 (Chieng Khoi Aquatic Cooperative, Na Dong village, Chieng Khoi commune).
Mr. Cao Xuan Dung, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Chau district informed that in the first months of the year, Yen Chau district surveyed and guided 04 Cooperatives to prepare documents to implement support according to Resolution No. 128 dated February 28, 2020 of the Provincial People's Council on promulgating the Resolution on policies to encourage investment in agriculture and rural areas in Son La province.

Coordinate with the Provincial Rural Agricultural Industry Association to register students and organize a training course on organic fruit tree farming techniques in Phieng Khoai commune, with 40 participants.
