Implementing Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated January 21, 2021 on developing the agricultural processing industry in Son La province for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030, districts and cities of Son La province have had many effective solutions. In particular, Mai Son district stands out, which is considered a large fruit tree granary, thanks to its good implementation of linking agricultural product processing with expanding production linkages...
The investment in construction of Son La Coffee Processing Factory has helped Son La province connect production, processing, consumption and export.
Currently, Mai Son district has six industrial-scale coffee, sugarcane, cassava, and fruit processing companies and hundreds of small-scale processing facilities in operation. Each year, these facilities purchase about 700,000 tons of various agricultural products from local people.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong, Secretary of Mai Son District Party Committee, informed: Mai Son is a large fruit granary of Son La province with 11,500 hectares of fruit trees, of which the area of fruit trees produced using high technology is 4,297 hectares. The area of associated production in Mai Son is 9,860 hectares, accounting for 8.5% of the total agricultural land area of the district.
To effectively implement, the district has established a working group to develop raw material areas, produce, consume and export agricultural products; disseminate policies and orient farmers, cooperatives and enterprises to invest and develop high-tech agricultural production; link production and consumption of agricultural products in the chain. At the same time, direct agencies and units to coordinate with facilities to review land areas that can be developed and expanded to expand raw material areas.
In Mai Son, many units have done a good job of expanding production linkages associated with agricultural processing. In addition to creating stable jobs for local workers, these units also contribute to promoting the production and consumption of agricultural products for farmers, such as Son La Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, which is a bright spot in linking production and expanding raw material areas.
The company is building a sustainable link between businesses and sugarcane farmers, implementing many policies to support farmers in developing raw material areas with more than 10,000 households in Mai Son, Yen Chau, growing more than 9,000 hectares of sugarcane, yielding 65 tons of sugarcane/ha. The average sugarcane output reaches 550,000-650,000 tons/year. Every year, the company invests 200-220 billion VND in raw sugarcane production, of which non-refundable support is about 50 billion VND...
Son La province is a locality with a large coffee growing area. Many years ago, the production and processing of coffee caused environmental pollution in districts and cities, including Mai Son district, which was a matter of public concern. Only when the province strengthened inspection, supervision and handling, especially focusing on investing in building processing factories in the area, did the environmental pollution from coffee processing decrease significantly. Currently, Mai Son has more than 1,000 hectares of coffee grown by 1,560 households in communes recognized as high-tech application areas. Of which, the area recognized for Son La Coffee Processing Joint Stock Company has a certified area of 368.1 hectares...
Mr. Nguyen Khac Hao, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Agricultural Development of Mai Son District, said: Son La Coffee Processing Joint Stock Company has just started operating in 2023 but has paid great attention to implementing production linkage contracts with farmers. The company has linked high-tech coffee production with 684 households in eight villages of three communes: Chieng Ban, Chieng Chung and Chieng Dong with an output of about 6,000 tons in the 2023-2024 crop year. Up to this point, the company has done a good job of coordinating and implementing linkages in coffee production associated with environmental protection in the district in a sustainable and closed direction through cooperatives.
Along with that, the attention to building raw material areas associated with processing factories has contributed to helping Mai Son promote agricultural transformation in the right direction, increasing the average income value per unit of cultivated land area. At the same time, the district has had many solutions in mobilizing farmers and cooperatives to link and replicate safe chain production models for other processed agricultural products, especially the agricultural processing industry, with steps of development in both quality and quantity. A number of factories and agricultural processing facilities, such as: Sugarcane, cassava starch, coffee... have been operating stably, contributing to the development of raw material areas and increasing revenue for the budget.
Mr. Hao added: Mai Son has 51 enterprises and cooperatives producing according to VietGAP standards; the area of fruit trees with a code for growing areas is 1,217 hectares; there are six companies processing coffee, sugarcane, cassava, and fruits on an industrial scale and hundreds of small-scale processing facilities operating, purchasing about 700,000 tons of various agricultural products for farmers each year, and five packaging facilities serving exports. This is a favorable condition for developing raw material areas associated with processing.
In the roadmap for developing the processing industry associated with agricultural product consumption for the people, Mai Son is focusing on implementing activities to support agricultural product processing facilities, ensuring a concentrated, stable and long-term raw material area, linked to domestic and foreign markets. At the same time, the district focuses on implementing appropriate mechanisms and policies to attract investors in the fields of agriculture and agricultural product processing industry; strengthening investment promotion, creating open mechanisms to attract businesses to build agricultural product purchasing and processing facilities in the area; acting as a bridge between businesses and farmers, promoting the linkage of production and product consumption.
