In recent years, the rural landscape of Son La province has continuously transformed, and the material and spiritual lives of people in the province's rural areas have been steadily improving. These changes stem from the determination of the Party Committee, government, and people of Son La province in successfully implementing the goals of building new rural areas in each specific stage.
The Resolution of the Son La Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term sets the goal of striving to have 83 communes and 1 district in the province meet the standards of the New Rural Development Program by the end of 2025. To achieve the goal of the Resolution, in recent times, the Provincial Fatherland Front, departments, agencies, and mass organizations of Son La province have focused on leading, directing, and implementing the national target program for New Rural Development quite synchronously, creating consensus and encouraging the participation and contribution of the people, thereby achieving many important results.
According to reported data, as of the end of June 2024, Son La province had 65 communes meeting the standards for New Rural Development, 8 communes meeting the standards for advanced New Rural Development, and Son La city had completed its New Rural Development tasks; 57 villages and sub-districts were recognized as meeting the standards for New Rural Development villages. In the first six months of 2024, departments, agencies, districts, and cities carried out numerous activities to promote the New Rural Development Program through various forms such as: disseminating information through mass media; organizing 35 propaganda sessions using theatrical performances, cultural and artistic events, competitions, mobile vehicles, and film screenings; distributing 23 banners, 50 flags, and 81 visual propaganda publications; and holding 764 thematic conferences, etc.
Districts and cities have launched the "Returning to the Grassroots" movement, mobilizing officials and civil servants to continue visiting the grassroots on Saturdays and Sundays to help people renovate their houses, eliminate temporary housing, improve the environment, landscape, and living space, and build a new cultural lifestyle...
In addition, socio-political organizations have promoted campaigns such as: "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" and "the campaign to build families with 5 no's and 3 clean's associated with building new rural areas," which have attracted a large number of people from all walks of life, members, and affiliates to respond and voluntarily participate.
As a result, over 6.6 billion VND was mobilized and directly contributed in cash, and the people contributed 58,754 m2 of land for the construction of rural roads and cultural centers, along with 765 days of labor. Many assets and materials continued to be contributed by the business community, cooperatives, and the people, opening up many spacious and clean rural roads, investing in and developing many rural cultural facilities, and building many model new rural villages and sub-districts, aiming towards livable rural areas such as the model new rural villages in Chieng Thuong village, Quang Huy commune, Phu Yen district, and Van Minh village, Muong Bu commune, Muong La district...
In addition, Son La province has opened 83 training courses for over 4,300 participants, including civil servants, association members, and farmers, on implementing the New Rural Development Program. The focus has been on training courses related to the "One Commune, One Four Products" (OCOP) program and product value chains according to Resolution No. 111/2024/QH.

Villages and hamlets in Son La are becoming cleaner and more beautiful thanks to the New Rural Development program.
In particular, implementing Resolution No. 14-NQ/TU dated July 26, 2021, of the Provincial Party Committee on building Quynh Nhai district to achieve new rural standards by 2025, the members of the Steering Committee and Quynh Nhai district have proactively implemented tasks according to the plan; strengthened propaganda work to create consensus among the people; and focused on overcoming difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process.
As of the end of June 2024, 7 out of 11 communes in Quynh Nhai district have been recognized as achieving New Rural Area standards, and 2 communes have achieved advanced New Rural Area standards. The district has met 3 out of 9 criteria and 19 out of 36 indicators for a New Rural Area district. Currently, the district is focusing on accelerating the review and planning process, prioritizing resources for the construction of essential infrastructure projects, and strengthening investment attraction for the development of agriculture, fisheries, and ecotourism in the area. Quynh Nhai is striving to complete the construction of 100% of its communes to achieve New Rural Area standards by the end of 2024, with 3 communes achieving advanced New Rural Area standards; and to develop Muong Giang commune into a town by 2025.
Building on the achievements already made, Son La province is currently prioritizing resources to support Quynh Nhai district in achieving the new rural district standard according to the National Criteria for New Rural Districts in the 2021-2025 period. The province is maintaining Son La city's completion of the new rural development task, while continuing to direct localities to synchronously implement the national target program for new rural development in all 188/188 communes of the province, prioritizing 8 communes striving to achieve the new rural standard by 2024. In addition, it is consolidating and perfecting the new rural criteria according to the National Criteria for New Rural Communes in the 2021-2025 period for the group of communes that have already achieved the new rural standard in the previous period, and prioritizing resources to implement the new rural standard and model new rural villages, striving to achieve an average of 13.12 new rural criteria per commune by the end of 2014, with no communes having fewer than 5 criteria.
