(vov.vn) - New roads, spacious classrooms, green hills with fruit trees... have embellished the picture of new life in the mountainous region of Son La, and are also proof of the policies, attention and support of local Party committees and authorities for people in disadvantaged areas, highlands and ethnic minority areas.
For over a year, since the concrete road leading to Then Luong village, Chieng Dong commune, Yen Chau district, Son La province, has been built, the village’s appearance has become brighter. Children’s bicycles going to school or motorbikes carrying goods and agricultural products of the people run smoothly on the new road, easing the hardships and worries of the past.
New concrete roads add bright colors to the village's appearance.
Like many people in Then Luong village, Mr. Hoang Van Ong was very excited and said: "After the road was completed, the people were very happy. The new road is more convenient for the people and their children to go to school and work than before."
This concrete road has a total length of nearly 760 meters, a road surface width of 3.5 meters, a total investment of nearly 3 billion VND, mobilized from the capital of the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, combined with resources contributed by the people.
People's travel and trade of goods are more convenient.
According to Mr. Hoang Van Tien, Party cell secretary and head of Then Luong village, the villagers have unanimously contributed human and material resources to the road upgrading project. "Previously, the corridor clearance involved garden land, residential land, surrounding walls, trees... with the participation and mobilization of the village management board, the villagers donated land and trees, and the villagers enthusiastically supported."
Along the long, wide roads is the immense green of the Yen Chau specialty mango growing area, which is also the main livelihood of the people here. To support farmers in developing production, many policies and strategies have been implemented by local authorities; including a project on developing sustainable agricultural and forestry production, promoting the potential and strengths of regions to produce goods according to the value chain, from the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, 2021 - 2030 period.

Mr. Ha Van Truong, Party cell secretary, head of Na Nga village, Chieng Hac commune, Yen Chau district, said: 38 poor households and households that have just escaped poverty in the village have been supported with fertilizers and technical guidance on mango tree care, helping the trees grow stably and achieve high productivity. "I have coordinated with the village's organizations, combined with the commune and district agricultural extension agencies to organize the collection and distribution of fertilizers to the people according to the beneficiaries."
According to the Yen Chau District Agricultural Service Center, nearly 180 mango growing households in Chieng Hac and Tu Nang communes have been provided with more than 140 tons of organic fertilizer. The support not only meets the needs of farmers but also contributes to developing production, improving the quality and value of mango products, and promoting sustainable agricultural development in the locality.
All levels and sectors are interested in providing guidance on planting and care techniques to improve the quality and value of mango products.
Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Director of the Agricultural Service Center of Yen Chau district, Son La said: We have completed training, provided 50% of fertilizer, and people have used up all the fertilizer provided in the recent period.
The policies and strategies for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas have been implemented as a "lever" to help Yen Chau gradually eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, in accordance with the spirit of the Resolution of the District Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term. The poverty reduction rate in ethnic minority areas of the district has decreased by an average of 3% per year, people have better access to basic social services, their lives have improved, and the appearance of the countryside has become increasingly prosperous.
The lives of ethnic minorities change every day.
Mr. Lu Van Cuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Chau district, Son La said: We have reviewed all communes and towns with subjects in need of support to focus resources on implementation. Yen Chau also has many difficulties, but the important thing is that we have asked the entire political system to get involved, assigning each group of each standing committee member to be in charge, focusing on directing the tasks; for the beneficiaries, we require that when they are handed over, they must be responsible for protecting the projects invested in by the State; the communes and villages must also clearly assign responsibilities.
Local Party committees and authorities have been and are continuing to integrate and effectively use resources to ensure essential infrastructure, support production development, gradually shorten regional gaps, improve people's lives; and accompany people in mountainous, highland and ethnic minority areas in Son La on their journey to overcome difficulties and rise up.
