Socio-economic development situation in Son La province
Reporting on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan for 2024 and the socio-economic development plan for 2025, Comrade Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province, emphasized: In 2024, despite many difficulties, the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in Son La province continued to promote the spirit of unity, proactiveness, and creativity, striving to achieve many important and comprehensive results in all fields; it is estimated that 25 out of 28 targets will be completed and exceeded.
The province's gross domestic product in 2024 is estimated at over VND 36,274 billion, an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous year. Agricultural production is developing towards the application of high technology, clean agriculture, and organic agriculture. It is projected that by the end of the year, the province will have 88,688 hectares of industrial crops, an increase of 4.1%, and 84,780 hectares of fruit trees and hawthorn trees, an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous year; fruit production is estimated at 378,500 tons; 8 high-tech agricultural zones, 308 safe agricultural and aquatic food supply chains, and 188 OCOP products will be recognized; 29 agricultural and aquatic products will be granted protection certificates by the Intellectual Property Office, and 2 products will be granted protection certificates abroad.

Industrial production experienced significant growth, estimated at 19.3%. Total retail sales of goods are estimated at VND 35,800 billion, an increase of 14.3%; the value of goods participating in exports is estimated at USD 198 million, an increase of 6.1% compared to the same period last year. Tourism activities showed many positive changes; the total number of visitors to the province is estimated at 4.9 million, an increase of 7.5%; revenue is estimated at VND 5,800 billion, an increase of 22.1% compared to the previous year.
The investment and business environment continues to improve; the province has granted new investment approvals for 11 projects with a total registered capital of over 1,321 billion VND; promptly reviewed and adjusted the medium-term and annual public investment plans; cut and adjusted capital plans from slow-progress projects to supplement projects addressing the consequences of natural disasters, projects with good disbursement rates, and projects that need to be accelerated but lack funding.
The lives of the people in the province are stable, with the poverty rate estimated to be 11.17% by the end of 2024. The province promptly provided support to people affected by typhoons No. 2 and 3, and provided housing assistance to poor and near-poor households. The education and training sector received significant attention, with the high school graduation rate reaching 99.8%, an increase of 0.12% compared to the previous year; Son La City was inscribed in the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network.
Party building, strengthening the political system, and foreign relations have been enhanced. The province coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hua Phan province of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to successfully organize the opening ceremony of the Long Sap - Pa Hang international border gate. Political security, social order and safety are stable, and border security is maintained.

Further strengthen the review of institutions, mechanisms, and policies associated with improving the effectiveness and efficiency of implementation; focus on cutting and simplifying administrative procedures and business regulations, creating favorable conditions and reducing costs for people and businesses.
Focus resources on improving the infrastructure system.
Focus on restructuring industries and sectors, both within and outside those sectors, in conjunction with reforming the growth model towards increased application of science and technology, promoting innovation, and improving productivity, quality, efficiency, competitiveness, self-reliance, and adaptability.
Focus on developing high-quality human resources in conjunction with promoting scientific research, technology development and application, fostering innovation, and promoting entrepreneurship and creativity.
Investing in cultural development, achieving social progress and equity, and improving the material, spiritual, and health well-being of the people.
