The Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently launched a model of a Thai ethnic folk song and dance club in Chieng Pan commune, Yen Chau district, aiming to preserve and promote the valuable traditional culture of ethnic minorities in conjunction with tourism development.
The Thai ethnic folk song and dance club in Chiềng Pằn commune has started operating, contributing to the effective implementation of Project 6 in Yên Châu district.
Chiềng Pằn commune, Yên Châu district, Sơn La province, has 9 villages with 1,075 households and 4,445 inhabitants. Over 72% of the population are ethnic Thai people, living concentrated in the villages of Boong Xanh, Ngùa, Sốp Sạng, Phát, and Pang Héo. The Thai ethnic community in the area has been maintaining good cultural activities associated with Then singing, Tính playing, folk songs, and folk dances.
The Thai ethnic folk song and dance club in Chiềng Pằn commune, with 60 members, is a prime example of a group of artisans with deep knowledge of the culture, diverse ages, a passion for singing, and the ability to perform many forms of Thai folk songs, dances, and music. It is a promising bright spot in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of ethnic groups in conjunction with tourism development.
After more than a month of training, the club members received guidance and training from artists from the Son La Provincial Song and Dance Theatre and the Yen Chau District Communication and Culture Center. This knowledge and skills were used to improve the quality of club and cultural activities in the locality, in accordance with the Party and State's guidelines. This contributes to preserving the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group and developing the cultural and artistic movement at the grassroots level.
The club's cultural performance, showcasing the rich traditional culture of the Thai ethnic group, was presented at the launch ceremony.
Club members also receive instruction from exemplary artisans and respected individuals knowledgeable in traditional culture, teaching them about traditional Thai folk songs, Then singing, Tinh lute playing, ancient Xoe dances, ancient Thai dances, folk songs and music, and how to use characteristic musical instruments of the Thai ethnic group such as the khen be, pi pam, drums, and gongs.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee announced and presented the decision to establish the Folk Song and Folk Dance Club, a model of cultural life for the Thai ethnic minority in Chiềng Pằn commune, aiming to create conditions for cultural and artistic talents in the area to operate in an orderly and effective manner and to be replicated.
According to Mr. Pham Hong Thu, Deputy Director of the Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the club's launch and operation contribute to the active participation of the Thai ethnic community in Yen Chau district in preserving and promoting unique traditional cultural values, preventing the risk of loss, adulteration, and encroachment by harmful cultural influences.
The club's activities aim to preserve and promote the unique traditional cultural values of the Thai ethnic group, participate in fulfilling political tasks, and gradually develop tourism services and products to serve tourists, contributing to increasing income and creating livelihoods for the people.
This is also a practical activity organized by the Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Yen Chau District People's Committee, contributing to the effective implementation of Project 6 on "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" to restore, preserve and promote the traditional cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group associated with tourism development, and promote the socio-economic development of the locality.
