The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La has just launched a model of Thai ethnic folk song and dance club in Chieng Pan commune, Yen Chau district to preserve and promote the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development.
The Thai ethnic folk song and dance club in Chieng Pan commune has come into operation, contributing to the effective implementation of Project 6 in Yen Chau district.
Chieng Pan commune, Yen Chau district, Son La province has 9 villages with 1,075 households, 4,445 people, over 72% of the population are Thai ethnic people living in Boong Xanh, Ngua, Sop Sang, Phat and Pang Heo villages. The Thai ethnic community in the area has been maintaining good cultural activities associated with Then singing, Tinh lute, folk singing and folk dancing.
The Thai ethnic folk song and dance club in Chieng Pan commune with 60 members is a typical core with a force of artists with deep understanding of culture, diverse ages, passionate about singing, capable of performing many types of Thai ethnic folk songs, dances, and music. It is a bright spot in the future in preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage of ethnic groups associated with tourism development.
After more than 1 month of training, the club members were provided with knowledge and skills by artists from the Son La Provincial Music and Dance Theater and the Yen Chau District Media and Culture Center to improve the quality of organizing club activities and local cultural and artistic teams in accordance with the Party and State's guidelines. Thereby, contributing to preserving and maintaining the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group and developing the cultural and artistic movement at the grassroots level.

Club members are also taught Khap Thai melodies, Then singing, Tinh lute, ancient Xoè melodies, ancient Thai dances, folk songs, folk music, and how to use typical musical instruments of the Thai people such as Khen be, Pi pam, drums, gongs, etc. by prominent artisans and prestigious people with a deep understanding of traditional culture.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee announced and awarded the decision to establish a folk song and dance club modeling the cultural life of the Thai ethnic group in Chieng Pan commune to create conditions for the local art nuclei to operate in an orderly, effective and widely-replicated manner.
Mr. Pham Hong Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La, said that the club's launch and operation contributed to the Thai ethnic community in Yen Chau district actively participating in preserving and promoting unique traditional cultural values, avoiding the risk of loss, the risk of hybridization and encroachment of harmful cultural streams.
The club's activities aim to preserve and promote the unique traditional cultural values of the Thai ethnic group, participate in implementing political tasks, and gradually form tourism services and products to serve tourists, contributing to increasing income and creating livelihoods for the people.
This is also a practical activity organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La in coordination with the People's Committee of Yen Chau district, contributing to the effective implementation of Project 6 on "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" to restore, preserve and promote the traditional cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group associated with tourism development, promoting local socio-economic development.
