The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with districts and cities, is preparing dossiers to submit for ranking 1-2 historical sites. Simultaneously, they are conducting an inventory and compiling a list of newly discovered sites for approval by the Provincial People's Committee; and organizing the surveying and demarcation of 58 out of 65 historical sites. Currently, the province has 96 historical, cultural, and scenic sites; of which, 65 have been ranked, including 2 special national sites, 16 national sites, and 47 provincial sites. These historical and cultural sites are distributed across districts and most are associated with a historical event; some sites are located on inter-provincial and international territories.
From state budget and social contributions, 38 out of 65 historical sites in the province have undergone restoration and renovation of their main components, addressing signs of deterioration. This contributes to preserving the original elements of the sites and meeting the needs of the people for sightseeing and spiritual and cultural activities. Specifically, during the period 2018-2024, the province implemented the restoration and renovation of the Son La Prison National Special Monument, the Que Lam Imperial Inscription - King Le Thai Tong Temple in Son La City, with a total budget of over 33 billion VND. Furthermore, to attract tourists to historical and cultural sites, districts and cities in the province have proactively developed and connected tourism routes focusing on historical sites, combining visits to historical relics with experiences of local beliefs and culture. They organize spiritual tourism tours during major festivals. They promote the application of technology at historical sites to develop "smart tourism," aiming to awaken and exploit the potential of cultural heritage to serve diverse activities for visiting and experiencing these sites. Simultaneously, they organize training courses to improve the professional capacity, soft skills, and foreign language skills of tour guides and interpreters at these sites. They also strengthen the workforce for management, protection, and service, ensuring the smooth operation of activities at historical sites, with the goal of making Son La a safe and attractive destination in the region.
Moc Chau district has 14 ranked historical and cultural relics; including 3 national-level relics and 11 provincial-level relics. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, reported that in recent years, the district has restored, renovated, and repaired 7 relics with a total budget of over 60 billion VND, from the state budget and social contributions. They are encouraging and creating conditions for local communities to participate in and benefit from tourism development associated with relics, contributing to job creation and increased income for the people.
