(baosonla.vn) - On December 27, 2024, the People's Committee of Son La province issued a decision to recognize the high-tech mango production area in Chieng Hac commune, Yen Chau district. This is the second fruit tree production area in Yen Chau district to be recognized.

Yen Chau has nearly 3,300 hectares of mangoes, with an output of nearly 15,000 tons/year, mainly round mangoes, stinky mangoes, Australian mangoes, Taiwanese mangoes (GL4). Of which, 207 hectares are certified VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic; 298 hectares are assigned growing area codes for export to markets in China, Australia, the US, and New Zealand.
Mango acreage in the area is mainly concentrated in the communes of Chieng Pan, Chieng Hac, Sap Vat, and Tu Nang. Of which, Chieng Hac is the commune with the largest mango acreage in the district with 800 hectares. The commune coordinates with the district's professional agencies to plan and build specialized mango material areas; review and deploy planting and renovation areas according to the plan; increase plot exchange to create concentrated scale; train and transfer science and technology in planting and caring for mango trees to local people according to the value chain to build and form a high-tech mango production area. At the same time, mobilize households to join together to establish cooperatives, care for mangoes according to the standards required by partners and customers; orient the consumption market so that mango products achieve the highest value.

In Chieng Hac commune, there are 3 cooperatives specializing in growing and consuming mangoes, including: Chieng Hac Safe Agriculture Cooperative, Na Nga Agricultural Cooperative and Quyet Thang Huoi Nga Agricultural Cooperative. The cooperatives have signed production linkage contracts with 144 households in 4 villages: Na Nga, Huoi Set, Huoi Mong, Vang Lung with a total area in the linkage area of nearly 308 hectares.
Chieng Hac Safe Agriculture Cooperative, Vang Lung village, was established in 2017. From the initial 5 hectares of mango, up to now, the cooperative has cooperated with 64 households in the area to expand the mango growing area to 159 hectares, becoming a large specialized mango growing area in Yen Chau district.

Mr. Ha Van Son, Director of Chieng Hac Safe Agriculture Cooperative, shared: The mango variety planted by the Cooperative is Taiwanese mango (GL4), this is an imported variety with high productivity. The Cooperative has transferred techniques to members and associated households to apply in actual production, such as: Cutting, pruning, shaping the canopy; regularly monitoring the tree's shoots and leaves, adjusting the appropriate nutritional regimen; using plant protection drugs according to the "4 rights" principle, combined with the use of safe biological products and natural enemies to protect crops.
In addition, Chieng Hac Safe Agriculture Cooperative also invested in a processing line, installed surveillance cameras to serve the traceability of products, ensuring product export. Initially, the Cooperative used drones to monitor the growth and development of mango trees, especially the disease situation and precise irrigation water in each area. Annually, the average mango output reaches over 4,000 tons, the yield is 15 tons/ha, the average selling price is 10,000 VND/kg. The income of mango growing households is from 140-185 million VND/ha.

At Quyet Thang Huoi Nga Agricultural Cooperative, Huoi Nga village, Chieng Hac commune, there are 9 hectares of mangoes certified by VietGAP and linked production and consumption for farmers with an area of nearly 80 hectares of mangoes, exported to markets in China, Australia, and the US.
Mr. Lo Van Kim, Director of the Cooperative, shared: In 2024, the Cooperative will sell nearly 500 tons of mangoes, of which over 250 tons will be exported to China, with revenue reaching over 4 billion VND. The Cooperative applies science and technology, strictly follows production processes, installs automatic irrigation systems, and keeps care logs. The Cooperative encourages households to cover 100% of the fruit area to reduce the invasion of fungal diseases, increase fruit quality and productivity by 20-30%...

Cooperatives in the mango growing area in Chieng Hac commune all apply sprinkler and drip irrigation systems combined with automatic fertilization. Growers use weather forecasting software and the Plant Protection Department's pesticide application to monitor pesticides and fertilizers licensed in Vietnam; there are cameras to monitor the smart irrigation system during the mango tree care process. Cooperatives also access the web applicationhttps://farmdiary.online/to monitor the management of growing area codes and declare logs according to regulations. The landscape environment is guaranteed, the mango production area in the commune has been installed with 11 tanks to store used pesticide packaging for proper treatment according to regulations.
The synchronous implementation of many scientific and technical solutions has contributed to improving the quality and yield of mangoes, meeting the strict requirements of the consumption and export markets. By the end of 2024, the entire mango production area of 3 cooperatives in Chieng Hac commune was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a high-tech application area. This is the driving force for cooperatives to aim to build sustainable agriculture.
In 2024, the whole district will have 2 agricultural areas recognized for applying high technology: longan production area in Long Phieng commune and mango production area in Chieng Hac commune.
